A Test strategy document defines testing approach(What & How).

It is one of the important document for delivering a quality product.

This has to be written early in the product lifecycle and it is a thought process to uncover any missing pieces.

Test Plan vs Test Strategy

A test Plan is what you want to achieve whereas strategy explains how to achieve it. Usually, Test Strategy is part of the Test Plan.

For each test type, explain the following

  1. Why it is required?
  2. Who owns it?
  3. When are we going to start and when will it end?
  4. Is Automation going to be used?
  5. Tools
  6. Defect management
  • Environment

All environments available for testing along with what test type is going to be performed in which environment.

  • Tools

Tools used for automation, test tracking, defect management, reporting along with their license details.

  • Release

Release management process which includes, build versioning, build availability, deployment process, build promotion.

  • Risk

List of risks along with the contingency plan

  • Review & Approvals

Summary of review changes along with review and approval details.
